Korea–Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) held an online coordination meeting to discuss Marine Spatial Planning and the development of the Regional Ocean Health Index for West Java, together with the West Java Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. This meeting marks an important step toward strengthening collaboration in supporting sustainable marine management and regional development.

MTCRC continues to play an active role in strengthening the research capacity of marine scientists in Indonesia. One of the supported activities is a regular seawater quality survey in the waters of Cirebon, conducted consistently since 2022. Led by Dr. Lamona Bernawis (ITB), this study aims to reveal the ecological dynamics of a marine area that holds significant importance for Indonesia’s maritime sector.

the scientific meeting with the MTCRC Advisory Board was held on February 9th, 2026, in Jakarta. The meeting focused on providing academic and scientific consultation to support and enhance MTCRC’s research programs and future initiatives. Through these discussions, MTCRC reaffirmed its commitment to advancing marine research and strengthening its role as an intergovernmental research center.

Korea-Indonesia MTCRC conducted an internal workshop as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination and enhance institutional capacity on January 21-23, 2026.
The workshop provided a space for internal discussion, knowledge sharing, and alignment across departments, supporting more effective planning and implementation of future programs.

Korea-Indonesia MTCRC with Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a meeting to strengthen academic collaboration and explore potential areas of cooperation, as part of the MTCRC Stakeholder Visit agenda.
The meeting served as a platform to exchange insights, discuss future programs, and align initiatives in support of marine science research, education, and capacity building.

Korea-Indonesia MTCRC held the first meeting with Coordinating Ministry of Food Affairs (CMFA) on 2026 to introduce MTCRC's new leadership and organization structure, strengthen institutional relations and discuss potential areas of collaboration.
The meeting provided a valuable platform to exchange perspectives, align future programs, and explore opportunities for cooperation in support of sustainable marine research and development.

The International Workshop on Small Islands Management was held on 28 November 2025 in Jakarta, bringing together experts and practitioners to discuss sustainable approaches to managing small island environments. The workshop featured presentations from eight speakers and was guided by three moderators who facilitated in-depth discussions. A total of 62 participants attended, representing various institutions and sectors, contributing to a vibrant exchange of knowledge and best practices for small island management.
24-27 November 2025
The International Training on Marine Environmental Mapping using Remote Sensing for Small Island Research and Development provided participants with essential skills in remote sensing for marine monitoring. The program included theory sessions on RS equipment and software, field training on Tidung Island, and data processing using GEE and QGIS. The event was supported by 3 lecturers, 10 trainers, and attended by 30 trainees, strengthening research capacity for small island development.

Korea-Indonesia MTCRC supported an ITB regular survey in the Cirebon waters on November 19, 2025. The survey was led by Dr. Lamona I. Bernawis, an oceanography lecturer at FITB, and accompanied by three students. The team focused on CTD measurements, collecting water samples, and phytoplankton along the Cirebon coastline.

Korea-Indonesia MTCRC welcomed around 37 students from the 7th semester of Oceanography ITB for a class session and demonstration on sediment analysis techniques. The session began with an introduction to sediment analysis methods tailored to different sample types, followed by a live demonstration using a sieve shaker at the MTCRC Chemical Laboratory, conducted by MTCRC researchers.
This activity aims to enhance students’ practical understanding of marine sediment analysis and strengthen collaboration between MTCRC and ITB in advancing marine science education.
