FIRST YEAR REPORTING: KOREA OCEANAID'S OFFICIAL DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE (ODA) KIOTEC

Jakarta, 20 August 2024 — The 1st year final report for the Korean Ocean ODA Project entitled “Establishment of the Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Center and Enhancing Capacity Building in Indonesia" formally referred to as ODA KIOTEC was held on Tuesday, 20 August in Westin, Jakarta.
ODA KIOTEC is an OCEANAID Official Development Assistance (ODA) project funded by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) of the Republic of Korea and initiated by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI) of the Republic of Indonesia. KIOTEC is conducted by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) and supported by the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development (BPPSDM-KP) on behalf of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) of the Republic of Indonesia. To ensure efficient operation, the Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) serves as the official implementing body on behalf of both countries. ODA KIOTEC aims to increase human resource capacity in marine and fisheries technology by establishing an integrated training center and Master Doctoral expert development program.
Dr. PARK Hansan, as an ODA Project Manager extended his heartfelt gratitude to all involved parties, including CMMAI, KKP and especially BPPSDM-KP, for the steadfast support of the KIOTEC project. He highlighted the crucial role of this support in advancing key initiatives, which are primarily aimed at enhancing human resource capabilities through the Master’s and Doctoral Degree Capacity Development Program, as well as various Short-Term Skills Training Courses. Dr. PARK also emphasized the ongoing efforts to establish and operate the KIOTEC training center in Ancol, a vital element in achieving the objectives of this project. Mrs. Ivonne, Director of MTCRC also highlighted that over the past year, MTCRC has significantly advanced human resource capacity in marine science and technology. She noted that 42 individuals received scholarships through the Master's and Doctoral Capacity Development Program, reinforcing MTCRC's commitment to fostering future advancements in marine science and technology
Mrs Niken Gusmawati on behalf of Mr. I Nyoman Radiarta, in her remarks convey that collaboration for this project is not only strengthens the bonds between our two nations but also brings significant benefits in the sustainable management of marine and fisheries resources. one of the most critical aspects to emphasize is the enhancement of capacity for educators and instructors, as well as the development of training infrastructure in the marine and fisheries sector in Indonesia. On behalf of Mr. Firman Hidayat, Deputy Coordinator for Maritime Resources, Mrs. Aniza Suzpita expressed CMMAI's honor in contributing to this important project and supporting the collective vision and efforts. She highlighted that the success of the first phase underscores the effectiveness of collaboration toward a shared goal and emphasized CMMAI's eagerness to continue the partnership.
Dr. PARK continued with the presentation of the project's final report for the first year, which included updates on scholarships, various training activities, and the Korea visit program. All these initiatives aim to enhance overall capacity. Dr. PARK also reported on the progress of the final renovations at the KIOTEC center. "Today's meeting is not only about reporting on the achievements of the past year but also about identifying areas for improvement as we move forward with the project," stated Dr. PARK.
The meeting was attended by 50 participants from several agencies and universities, such as CMMAI, BPPSDM-KP, MoFA, Bappenas, IPB, UNHAS, UNDIP, UNPATTI and UGM. At the meeting, active discussions were held on the project outline and its implementation. Over six years this project is expected to provide a beneficial impact to support Indonesia's marine and fishery human resource capability. This aligns with The Golden Vision of Indonesia 2045, which emphasizes the country’s role as a global maritime fulcrum and underscores the importance of strengthening human resource capacity. This project is a commitment to nurturing expertise, fostering innovation, and propelling Indonesia towards a brighter future in marine and fisheries.
