Cirebon, 22 February 2023 — Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) as a joint intergovernmental research center in the field of Marine Science and Technology between Korea represented by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) on behalf of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and Indonesia represented by the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI) have the aim of strengthening and promoting practical cooperation in the field of marine science and technology between the two countries, where one form of application of this cooperation is capacity building activities.Â
As the implementation of that program, MTCRC conducted Training on Mapping Coastal Areas Using Remote Sensing Data on 20th-22nd February of 2023 in MTCRC Cirebon Center. This training was conducted for three days with 3-4 material sessions each day with three main activities, namely theory classes, field training and data processing classes.
The training begins with remarks from Dr. Hansan PARK as the director of the MTCRC through a video recording. As an intergovernmental joint research center in marine science and technology, MTCRC has the responsibility to increase capacity, skill, and knowledge of Indonesian researchers. “For three days ahead, you will be provided with rich knowledge both theory and practical regarding method and data processing using remote sensing data, and also utilization of satellite imagery and drone data.” said Dr. Hansan PARK. In his opening remarks Dr. Hansan PARK also appreciated all the speakers and participants for dedicating their time and willingness to share their knowledge as well as appreciated all the MTCRC staff for their hard work in preparing this training.
In this training, MTCRC invited expert speakers in the field of satellites and drones, namely Dr. Pramaditya Wicaksono, lecturer from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Bayu Prayudha, M.Sc, researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and three speakers from MTCRC researchers, Umar Abdurrahman M,Si, Riam Badriana M.Eng and M , Faqih Hidayatullah, M.Sc. The focus of this training is to introduce methods and data processing using remote sensing data, as well as introducing the use of satellite imagery and drone usage data. The participants were given theoretical and practical training on the basics of using drones and satellites, using Google Earth, and also mapping. Participants were also introduced directly to the operation of drones and RTK (Real Time Kinetic) by researchers from the MTCRC.
The training was attended by 20 participants who were representatives from several invited institutions including the CMMAI, KKP, ITB, IPB, UNHAS, BMKG, UGM, PELINDO and the College of Naval Technology (STTAL). With this training, participants felt that it was helpful and beneficial to train marine experts who focused on remote sensing, all the material was well delivered even though the theoretical and practical agendas were quite dense. Participants also hope that there will be further training to be able to further explore the material.
This training was closed by remarks from Ivonne M. Radjawane Ph.D. as Director of Korea-Indonesia MTCRC. The implementation of this training is expected to help the participants to increase their knowledge through survey equipment for coastal areas, as well as increase their ability and insight regarding data processing to develop the results of the data obtained. "It is also hoped that through this training, participants will be able to build relationships and expand networks to continue exchanging ideas and helping each other," said Ibu Ivonne. In the future, Korea-Indonesia MTCRC plans to continue to improve self-development skills through training especially in the field of marine science and technology.
