STRENGTHEN COOPERATION IN MARITIME AND FISHERIES SECTORS; KOREA-INDONESIA MTCRC SIGNS MOU WITH BRAWIJAYA UNIVERSITY

Malang, 14 November 2024 — The Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) has expanded its cooperation with educational institutions in Indonesia, this time with Brawijaya University (UB). This partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 14, 2024, at the Ijen Suite Resort and Conference, Malang, along with the opening of The 5th International Conference on Fisheries and Marine Research (ICoFMR) 2024, organized by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, UB.
The MoU was signed by UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc., along with MTCRC Director, Dr. PARK Hansan, and Ivonne M. Radjawane, Ph.D. The event was also attended by several representatives from the faculties of Brawijaya University, including the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Si, Vice Dean 1 Prof. Dr.Sc. Asep Awaludin Prihanto, S.Pi., M.P., Vice Dean 2 Dr. Ir. Muhamad Firdaus, M.P., and Dr. Eng. Abu Bakar Sambah, S.Pi., M.T. (Vice Dean 2 for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Entrepreneurship of the FPIK UB).
In his speech, the Rector of Brawijaya University, Prof. Widodo, who was represented by Dr. Sujarwo, S.P., M.P. (Director of the Directorate of Student Affairs), warmly welcomed the guests at ICoFMR, which is considered highly important for developing the blue economy and strengthening resilience in the fisheries and marine sectors. He also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with MTCRC, stating that this MoU is a strategic step to expand research and enhance human resources through capacity building, especially in the fields of fisheries and marine science. Director of Korea MTCRC, Dr. PARK Hansan, emphasized that Brawijaya University has significantly contributed to maritime affairs in Indonesia, particularly in Central Java. The collaboration between MTCRC and UB is expected to advance the fisheries and marine science and technology which is aligned with the new government's concerns about Food affairs. This partnership includes mainly capacity development and joint research initiatives. This partnership includes joint research, conferences, and capacity-building initiatives. Ivonne M. Radjawane, Ph.D., The Director of Indonesia MTCRC noted that UB’s academic reputation and vision aligned with MTCRC make UB an ideal partner for advancing maritime research and education. The signing of this MoU between the two institutions is anticipated to create opportunities for joint research initiatives, fostering new synergies and enhancing academic value for both MTCRC and UB on the international stage.
MTCRC has been actively collaborating with various stakeholders and universities in Indonesia to expand cooperation in the fields of marine science and technology, through cooperation platforms, capacity building, and joint research. Through this partnership agreement, it is expected to strengthen academic and scientific marine programs and further support the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Korea through UB and MTCRC. The signing of this MoU also opens new opportunities for researchers, students, and stakeholders to foster innovations that benefit marine ecosystems and society.
