Bandung, 24 November 2024 — The Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) MTCRC Awardee Gathering, which brought together MTCRC awardees from various disciplines to share experiences and knowledge about applied research and technological innovation. The event, which took place at the Transluxury Hotel Bandung, aimed to strengthen the relationship between academics, researchers, and industry practitioners, as well as provide a platform to increase research collaboration, especially in the marine and fisheries science sector.
The MTCRC Awardee Gathering was attended by 60 participants, including scholarship alumni, ITB representatives, the Director of Korea-Indonesia MTCRC, and MTCRC Advisory Board representatives. The event opened with remarks from Dr PARK Hansan and Ivonne M. Radjawane. Dr. PARK highlighted the success of the MTCRC Scholarship Programme in developing top talents in the field of marine science and technology, and encouraged the alumni to continue the positive impact, contribute to Indonesia's marine progress, and improve the quality of marine research and technology development. ‘The importance of continuing the positive impact that has been achieved by the alumni in accelerating Indonesia's marine progress, and inviting awardees to continue to collaborate in improving the quality of marine research and technology development,’ said Dr. PARK Hansan. Ivonne M. Radjawane also added that MTCRC goes beyond merely providing financial support, but is also committed to further empowering the scholarship recipients as agents of change in the field of marine innovation and technology, to produce a generation of leaders who will contribute to Indonesia's and global marine sustainability’. Furthermore, Lamona I. Bernawis, Head of the FITB-ITB Master of Oceanography Study Programme, said in her remarks ‘the current scholarship recipients are the result of a long-standing collaboration between ITB and MTCRC, and also congratulated all parties for the gathering of scholarship recipients as one of the results of this collaboration’.
The series of activities included talkshow sessions presented by awardee alumni and MTCRC staff, including Dayu Wiyati P (Ocean Science) from Korea University Science and Technology (UST), Wasir Samad (Environmental and Atmospheric Science) from Pukyong National University, Yazid Ridla (Marine Technology and Convergence Engineering) from UST, Lecturers of marine science, Umar Abdurrahman, (UNPAD), Prastyo Abi, (UNDIP), and Avrionesti, (BMKG). The alumni shared their academic experiences during their studies in Korea, the role of MTCRC in their careers, and contributions to Indonesia's marine development through research and development in their respective fields.
In addition to the talk show sessions, the event showcased traditional cultural performances, including the Jaipong Dance from Indonesia and the Buchaechum Dance from Korea. These performances were intended to foster stronger international relations, highlight cultural diversity, and promote cultural collaboration among alumni. At the conclusion of the event, an Ambassador was appointed to represent the MTCRC Awardee Alumni. This individual will be responsible for representing the MTCRC Scholarship Program alumni in various forthcoming initiatives. These ambassadors were selected based on their outstanding achievements and contributions, with the hope that they will inspire other scholarship recipients, and play an active role in promoting the mission and vision of the MTCRC. This appointment is expected to strengthen the role of alumni in supporting the sustainability of the program, as well as increase the positive impact generated by the MTCRC in the development of marine science and technology at the national and global levels.
