GLOBAL INNOVATION SYNERGY: KOREA-INDONESIA MTCRC JOINT RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP 2024

Jakarta, 17 December 2024 โ In an effort to strengthen the relationship between Korea and Indonesia and develop collaborative research, the Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) established a research collaboration project entitled MTCRC Joint Research Initiative 2024.ย
This initiative is one of MTCRC's main activities, focusing on joint research aimed at enhancing research cooperation in marine science and technology between the two countries, as well as providing a platform for researchers to share insights, findings, and the benefits of their research. Numerous prospective universities and institutions have been invited to the competitiveness of innovative research proposals on oceanography, climate change, marine resources, coastal management, ocean energy, and other related marine topic. Financially supported by the Korean government, the initiative focuses on high-quality, impactful research, emphasizing MTCRCโs commitment in supporting research with a significant impact on marine science. Since 2019, MTCRC, as an intergovernmental research center, has been hosting the Joint Research program to contribute meaningful and beneficial results through cooperation between both countries.ย
As part of the program's conclusion and to facilitate the presentation and discussion of findings from the collaborative research projects conducted, MTCRC is organizing a workshop titled โKorea-Indonesia MTCRC Joint Research International Workshop 2024โ on December 17, 2024, at the Ibis Hotel, Jakarta.ย
In the opening of the workshop, Ivonne M. Radjawane, Ph.D., the Director of Indonesia MTCRC, stated that the workshop organized by MTCRC aims to provide a platform for researchers involved in the MTCRC Joint Research Initiative 2024 to present their progress and research results. "I hope this workshop will help us strengthen our shared goals, encourage creative research, and build stronger partnerships," said Ms. Ivonne. In addition to the opening remarks from MTCRC, Mr. Roby Fadillah, Assistant Deputy for Maritime Competitiveness, also attended as a representative from the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs. In his speech, he emphasized that the Ministry of Food Affairs will always support the maritime activities and cooperation carried out by MTCRC.
The event began with presentations from two invited speakers from Korea, Dr. Soomee KIM (KIOST) and Prof. Changwook LEE (Kangwon National University). Dr. KIM discussed the topic titled "Maritime ICT: AI-based Maritime Data Processing," where he explained the importance of utilizing Artificial Intelligence to manage maritime data in an integrated manner. Following that, Prof. LEE presented "Natural Disaster Monitoring through Remote Sensing: A Multi-Wavelength and AI-Driven Approach." In his presentation, Prof. LEE introduced the use of remote sensing technology as a tool to monitor various types of natural disasters including the Land subsidence in Jakarta and Bandung.
The next session was the workshop, which was the main session of the event. The workshop was divided into five main sessions, each featuring two to three selected speakers from various prestigious universities such as IPB, UGM, UNUD, ITB, and UNHAS, with a total of 12 speakers. Each session addressed important topics related to collaborative research, including Marine Remote Sensing & Ocean Satellite - Operational Oceanography Forecast System, Blue Carbon, Marine Pollution and Debris, Coastal Disaster and Hazard, and Smart Aquaculture.
At the end of the event, Dr. PARK Hansan, the Director of Korea MTCRC, stated that this agenda marked the conclusion of the Joint Research Initiative, which took place from August to November 2024. Dr. PARK expressed his hope that the Joint Research Initiative organized by MTCRC would strengthen the bond between Korea and Indonesia and make a significant contribution to the advancement of science and technology on a global scale.
