Jakarta, 24 April 2025 — The Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) continued its effort on capacity building program in the form of a training titled "Special Training Course: Marine Survey Equipment Training" on April 22–24, 2025, at the KIOTEC Office in Ancol.
This training is part of MTCRC’s commitment to strengthening human resource capacity in marine science and technology through the Official Development Assistance (ODA) project titled “Establishment of the Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Center and Enhancing Capacity Building in Indonesia”, or ODA KIOTEC, which was officially launched on June 12, 2024, in Busan, South Korea. In 2025, the ODA KIOTEC project was officially registered as a commitment under the United Nations (UN) Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development initiative, marking international recognition of its contribution to advancing marine science and capacity building on a global scale. This training was specifically designed for students and lecturers from Marine and Fisheries Polytechnics (PKP) under the Human Resources Development and Extension Agency for Marine and Fisheries (BPPSDMKP), Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).
The training officially opened by Dr. PARK Hansan as the ODA Project Manager, Ms. Kiestiko Saptasari representing the Head of BPPSDMKP Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, and Mr. Alan Frendy Koropitan as the Head of the Center for Marine and Fisheries Education (Pusdik KP). In her remarks, Ms. Kiestiko expressed her appreciation for the successful implementation of the training and encouraged participants to take full advantage of this opportunity. Mr. Alan also expressed his gratitude for MTCRC’s support in organizing the training. "We hope this training serves as meaningful collaboration to strengthen marine technology in Indonesia," he said. Dr. PARK highlighted that, seeing the positive impact of the previous training, expanding it to BPPSDMKP’s lecturers and students is essential. Dr. Park appreciated BPPSDMKP’s initiative and expressed hope that this training will foster knowledge exchange, capacity building, and stronger Indonesia–Korea collaboration.
A total of 20 participants from PKP Pangandaran, PKP Karawang, the Polytechnic of Fishery Business Experts (AUP), and the Tegal Fisheries Business School (SUPM) took part in a three-day training focused on the operation and application of marine survey instruments—ADCP and CTD. Over the course of three days, participants received both theoretical and practical sessions, including data collection and processing. Field data collection was conducted in Ancol Waters using the ARA-2 vessel, a research ship donated by the Korean government. This hands-on experience deepened participants’ understanding of oceanographic observation processes, which will be beneficial for teaching, applied research, and sustainable management of marine resources. The training also aimed to build participants’ technical expertise and encourage the sharing of insights within academic and research settings. Similar initiatives are expected to continue to strengthen human resources and promote marine technology for sustainable resource management in Indonesia.
