Jakarta, November 10, 2025 โ Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) with Pusan National University (PNU) conducted a Joint Training on Benthic Habitat Mapping at Tidung Kecil Island, Seribu Islands, from October 27 to 31, 2025. This activity is part of MTCRCโs ongoing collaboration in advancing marine science and technology, while also strengthening Indonesiaโs technical capacity in benthic habitat mapping research.
The training involved researchers and technical teams from MTCRC to enhance practical competence in benthic mapping using drones equipped with multispectral optical sensors. The field training activities were carried out in challenging marine conditions, covering aerial data acquisition of seagrass meadows and spectral signature measurements of benthic objects. Strengthening this capability is considered essential to support national efforts in mapping, managing, and protecting benthic ecosystems, which play a crucial role in climate change mitigation, marine biodiversity, and the overall health of coastal ecosystems.
Through this activity, MTCRC also promotes the application of drone and remote sensing technologies as part of efficient and accurate marine innovation. The outcomes of this training are expected to serve as a foundation for future research and data-driven policy development in coastal and marine management in Indonesia.
This initiative also represents a continuation of MTCRCโPNU collaboration following previous successful survey trainings in Pulau Pari (Seribu Islands) and Nusa Dua, Bali. Through this partnership, MTCRC strengthens its role as an intergovernmental cooperation platform in advancing marine science capacity in Indonesia.
