Jakarta, April 21, 2026 — The Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) hosted the International Joint Seminar on Marine Robotics (ROVs and UAVs) to support the implementation of the blue economy and blue food initiatives in Indonesia. Held at Artotel Mangkuluhur Jakarta, the event brought together experts, policymakers, and partners from both Indonesia and Korea.
The program opened with remarks from Mr. Kim Namhoon, the Korea Director of MTCRC, and Mr. Dandy Satrya Iswara, Deputy of marine resource affairs of the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs. In their opening addresses, the speakers emphasized the necessity of science-based strategies that prioritize marine technological innovations, such as ROVs, to drive sustainable ocean-based economic development.
The seminar featured two primary sessions addressing strategic issues about blue economy, blue food, and marine technology. The first session, titled “Progress of Blue Economy Implementation in Indonesia and Korea,” explored policy implementation, strategic programs, technological advancements, and ongoing bilateral collaborations between the two nations particularly in the areas of renewable energy and the fisheries sector.
The second session, “Utilization of Autonomous Vehicles for the Marine Industry,” focused on the practical application of autonomous systems, including Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), in supporting industrial marine activities, monitoring, data collection, structure maintenance, as well as various underwater operations beyond human reach.
The event featured speakers and moderators from both countries who shared specialized knowledge and field experience. Attendees included interns currently undergoing placement at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs and invited guests from various institutions partnered with MTCRC.
Through this initiative, MTCRC aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation, foster knowledge exchange, and promote the use of innovative marine technology to support an adaptive and sustainable blue economy in Indonesia.
