MoU Signing with UNUD
Denpasar, 13 April 2023 — Korea-Indonesia MTCRC continues to expand cooperation with Indonesian educational institutions related to academic and scientific programs in the field of marine science and technology.Â
This time the collaboration was carried out with the Udayana University (Unud) which was embodied through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, April 13th, 2023 at the Rectorate Building, Udayana University by Prof. I Putu Gede Adiatmika as Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Information as a representative of the Rector of Unud with the Director of MTCRC, Dr. PARK Hansan and Ivonne M. Radjawane, Ph.D. The ceremony was also attended by several representatives from Unud, namely Prof. I Wayan Nuarsa, Dean of the Faculty of Marine Science, I Wayan Gede Astawa Karang, Ph.D., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Marine Science, and also representatives of CMMAI, namely Firman Hidayat, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Maritime Resources, Raimundus Nggajo, Secretary to Deputy Coordinating Minister for Maritime Resources, Amalyos Chan, Assistant Deputy Coordinating Minister for Maritime Resources Downstream, Rahmat Mulianda, Assistant Deputy Coordinating Minister for Aquaculture Development.
Korea-Indonesia MTCRC is an intergovernmental joint research center in the field of Marine Science and Technology between Korea represented by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) on behalf of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and Indonesia represented by the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI). Kicking off the event, the Deputy for Maritime Resources Coordination (CMMAI) Mr. Firman Hidayat said that Bali has spectacular underwater beauty so the potential for marine and fisheries resources is very promising. "I believe this collaboration will be a good first step to strengthen and improve the capacity of human resources and technology in the field of marine and fisheries in Bali," said Mr. Firman. In his remarks, he also hoped that this collaboration could provide solutions and answer some important issues in the field of sustainable management of coastal and marine resources, environmental protection, and utilization of natural resources, especially coastal and marine resources that are currently developing.
In his speech, Korean Director of MTCRC, Dr. PARK Hansan said that Udayana University has a strong reputation in terms of academic excellence and commitment to becoming one of the leading universities in Indonesia. Its location in Bali which has a very wide coast and vast sea areas that have supportive environment for the development of marine natural resources. "I sincerely hope this MoU will lead to more chances and opportunities for joint cooperative relationships which are beneficial for both countries in the maritime field and I very much look forward to seeing fruits of our collaboration, for the next activities." Dr. PARK Hansan added.
Mrs. Ivonne M. Radjawane, Ph.D. as the Indonesian Director of MTCRC added, Unud as a leading university through the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries has the same vision as MTCRC in advancing academic research and education, especially Bali, where Udayana University is located has a wealth of maritime potential that can be explored and developed. "Through the signing of this MoU we are very excited to activate collaborations that will actively work together in academic and scientific programs in the fields of Marine Science and Technology, Marine Remote Sensing, Coastal and Marine Environment, Marine Meteorology and Climate, Smart Aquaculture, Marine Ecotourism, and other upcoming topics in the field of Marine Science and technology," said Mrs. Ivonne. Mr. Safri Burhanuddin as the chairman of the MTCRC advisory board who is also the Former-Deputy for Maritime Resources Coordination was also present and conveyed the history of cooperation between CMMAI and Unud. "I think this collaboration is a good step, especially since Unud is also involved in the Indonesian Coral Reef Garden (ICRG) survey activities and several workshop seminars that have been held by MTCRC" Mr. Safri added.
Prof. I Putu Gede Adiatmika, Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Information of Udayana University, opened his speech with a brief introduction of Udayana University. Related to cooperation with Korea over the past few years, Unud has collaborated with Pukyong National University (PKNU), one of university in Korea. "I hope that after the signing of this MoU, we can accelerate practical cooperation activities in the field of marine science. I think this is also in line with the aims of Korea-Indonesia MTCRC to strengthen cooperation in the field of marine science and technology through education, research, and capacity-building activities." said Prof. Adiatmika.
MTCRC has been actively collaborating with various stakeholders and universities in Indonesia to expand cooperation in the field of marine science and technology, by conducting main activities such as cooperation platforms, capacity building and joint research. Through this cooperation agreement, it is expected to make a positive contribution to strengthening academic and scientific programs in the field of marine science and technology that is advantageous for Korea-Indonesia bilateral cooperation through Unud and MTCRC.
