KOREA-INDONESIA MTCRC ESTABLISH COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF CAPACITY BUILDING WITH BPPSDMKP

MoU Signing with BPPSDMKP
Jakarta, 6 June 2023 — Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) has agreed to cooperate with the Agency of Marine and Fisheries Research and Human Resources (BPPSDMKP), in the field of human resource capacity building.
The cooperation legally began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Head of BPPSDMKP, Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, S.Pi., M.Sc., and the two Directors of Korea-Indonesia MTCRC, Dr. PARK Hansan and Ivonne M. Radjawane, Ph.D., at Mina Bahari III Building, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (6/6/2023). This event was attended by several representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, namely; Act. Deputy for Coordination of Maritime Resources M. Firman Hidayat, Assistant Deputy for Downstream Maritime Resources Amalyos Chan, and Associate Expert Policy Analyst at Assistant Deputy for Downstreaming Maritime Resources Firman Trisasongko, Dr. Rudi Alek Wahyudin as Main Secretary of BPPSDMKP and Dr. Safri Burhanuddin as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the MTCRC.
Korea-Indonesia MTCRC is an intergovernmental joint research center in the field of Marine Science and Technology between Korea, represented by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) on behalf of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and Indonesia, represented by the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI). The establishment of MTCRC aims to strengthen and promote practical cooperation in the field of marine science and technology between the two countries including in human resource capacity building.Â
The agenda for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing was opened with remarks from Deputy Firman Hidayat, he expected that the signing of this MoU could be a strategic step to support the implementation of the ODA Project related to the Integrated Capacity Building Center Program which will be implemented for the next 6 years. In his remarks, Deputy Firman also mentioned that there are two capital strengths to increase the capacity of maritime human resources, BPPSDMKP which actively provides training and extension, as well as universities that produce higher education graduates. Through this cooperation project, it is hoped that in the future it can initiate a bridge with higher education institutions in Indonesia in developing human resource capacity and supporting research and innovation in the marine and fisheries sector.
The second remarks were delivered by the Korean Director of the MTCRC, Dr. PARK Hansan. Dr. PARK started his remarks with a flashback to the Bilateral Meeting Dialogue in September 2021 which discussed cooperation between Korea and Indonesia in the maritime sector, including the area of capacity building. "The Memorandum of Understanding signed today can be a framework for our cooperation in establishing the Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Center and enhancing capacity building in Indonesia," added Dr. PARK Hansan.
"Since the visit on February 1st to the Ancol BPPSDMKP office and last April 13th to the Bali Tuna Fisheries Research Workshop/ Loka Riset Perikanan Tuna (LRPT), we see that BPPSDMKP is the right partner for the ODA Capacity Building Project which will be launched this year." said Mrs. Ivonne Radjawane, Ph.D, as the Indonesian Director of MTCRC in her remarks.
The Chairman of BPPSDMKP took this opportunity to express his appreciation to the MTCRC which has supported strengthening practical cooperation in the field of human resource development in the marine and fisheries sector which is economically and socially beneficial. "We have introduced our office located in Ancol and the research location for tuna fisheries in Bali to the MTCRC," said Pak Nyoman. He also explained that based on the visit, there were points that needed to be highlighted as one of the goals of cooperation between Korea and Indonesia, including the implementation of the MTCRC and BPPSDMKP cooperation in supporting the progress of the Vocational Goes to Actors (VOGA) program, the based on education, training and certification which unites 11 vocational polytechnics into an institution called the Ocean Institute of Indonesia.Â
Since its establishment, MTCRC has actively collaborated in the field of marine science and technology with several stakeholders and universities in Indonesia, by carrying out activities such as cooperation platforms, capacity building and joint research. Through the signing of this MoU, it is hoped that it will be able to bridge government institutions and universities in terms of capacity building in the marine and fisheries sector.
