MoU Signing with Diponegoro University
Semarang, 14 July 2023 — The Korea-Indonesia MTCRC is expanding cooperation again with Indonesian educational institutions regarding academic and scientific programs in the field of marine science and technology.Â
This collaboration was carried out with Diponegoro University (UNDIP) which was realized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, 14 July 2023 in the Rector’s Court Room, Widya Puraya Building 2nd floor, UNDIP, Semarang by Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, SH, M.Hum as Chancellor of UNDIP, with the Director of MTCRC, Dr. PARK Hansan and Ivonne M. Radjawane, Ph.D. The signing of the MoU was attended by a representative from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, namely Mr. Hardino. and was attended by several representatives from UNDIP, namely Deputy Chancellor I Prof. Faisal, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Deputy Rector II Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., Vice Chancellor III Prof. Budi Setiyono, Board of Trustees, Academic Senate and deans within UNDIP.
Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC), the Intergovernmental Joint Research Center in the field of Ocean Science and Technology between Korea and Indonesia based on the Memorandum of Understand (MoU) and the Implementing Arrangement (IA) between the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI), was established on 14 September 2018 at the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) Campus in Cirebon and operated by Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) and ITB. Korea-Indonesia MTCRC has the main functions of cooperation platform, joint research, and capacity building for strengthening and promoting practical cooperation in marine science and technology between the two countries.
The activity was officially opened by singing the Indonesia Raya song which was then followed by the signing of the MoU between the two parties. The event was then continued with remarks by the parties. Overseeing the speech, Prof. Yos Johan Utama as the Rector of UNDIP said that the vision of UNDIP is to become a World Class Excellence Research University, "Through international collaborations one of which is with the Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center is a form of UNDIP's commitment in realizing its vision". Even though the focus of cooperation agreed by both parties was on the maritime sector, the Rector of UNDIP stated that he hoped that this cooperation would be open to all faculties such as exchange of lecturer and staff in order to advance scientific research, implementation of joint research, seminars, conferences, capacity building programs including scholarships and training, and to contribute to the development of both institutions.
Korean Director of MTCRC, Dr. PARK Hansan in his remarks said that UNDIP has a strong contribution to maritime development in Indonesia, especially in Central Java by actively conducting research and community activities in coastal areas, especially in Central Java. UNDIP is also one of the leading universities in Indonesia and has a strong academic reputation. "We believe that collaboration with UNDIP will bring great benefits in advancing the Indonesian Maritime sector and advancing academic and scientific programs in the field of Marine Science and Technology," added Dr. PARK Hansan. Furthermore, mentioned by Dr. PARK Hansan that collaboration with UNDIP covers the areas: Joint research and field surveys, Joint Conferences including seminars and symposiums, Implementation of capacity building programs including scholarships and training. On this occasion Dr. PARK also expressed his appreciation to the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment for the support that has been given so far.
Ivonne M. Radjawane, Ph.D. as the Indonesian Director of MTCRC added, UNDIP's reputation for academic excellence and its commitment and having the same vision with MTCRC in advancing academic and educational research makes a strong foundation in the efforts of both parties to collaborate. In his speech, Ivonne said that UNDIP is an ideal partner in realizing maritime development because UNDIP is one of the campuses with a good reputation in Indonesia. "The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions symbolizes a partnership that we believe will lead to many joint research initiatives that generate new synergies, and add academic value to MTCRC, and UNDIP in the world," he added.
MTCRC has actively collaborated with various stakeholders and universities in Indonesia to expand cooperation in the field of marine science and technology, by carrying out main activities such as cooperation platforms, capacity building and joint research. Through this cooperation agreement, it is hoped that it can make a positive contribution to strengthening academic and scientific programs in the field of marine science and technology that are beneficial to Indonesia-Korea bilateral cooperation through UNDIP and MTCRC.
