ON THE ACHIEVEMENT OF CIREBON OCEAN ODA, INDONESIA-KOREA DECLARE NEW ODA PROJECTS

Jakarta, 29 August 2023 — For the follow-up of economic development in coastal areas, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) through the Deputy for Maritime Resources Coordination, Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Researcher Center (MTCRC) held a Final Reporting and Equipment Handover Ceremony for the Korea-Indonesia Official Development Assistance (ODA) project
"Ocean and Coastal Basic Survey and Capacity Enhancement in Cirebon Indonesia" and the Joint Declaration for the Marine and Fisheries Capacity Building Project "Establishment of Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Center and Enhancing Capability Building in Indonesia" on August 29, 2023.
The event was attended by the Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Sesmenko), Ayodhia G. L. Kalake and Acting Deputy for Maritime Resources, M. Firman Hidayat. In his opening remarks, Acting Deputy Firman said that today's event signified the success of the implementation of the Cirebon Ocean ODA Project which was achieved due to a well-thought-out initiative plan that could be executed well and show the extraordinary results that can be obtained from the partnership.
"This initiative is a concrete example of successful collaboration and partnership that has resulted in mutual benefits for many stakeholders in both countries. It also reflects our shared commitment to harnessing the potential of the ocean and strengthening our maritime resources," said Acting Deputy Firman.
Lee Sang Deok, Korean Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia also expressed his pride in the achievements of this international cooperation project between Indonesia and Korea. Ambassador Lee Sang Deok also hopes for the continuation of ODA projects between Indonesia and Korea because he sees the unlimited potential for cooperation in the maritime sector.
“One of the important aspects that must be emphasized in international cooperation projects such as ODA is ‘sustainability.’ I would like to emphasize that this project demonstrates the successful sustainable maritime cooperation between the two countries, Korea and Indonesia. MTCRC is leading this project and will continue to build on its achievements by launching further ODA projects aimed at enhancing the capacity of Indonesian marine experts starting this year,” said Ambassador Lee Sang Deok.
In recent years, the Cirebon Ocean ODA Project has achieved results and the number of beneficiaries exceeded initial expectations. The Representative of the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) who is also the ODA project Manager and Director of the Korea-Indonesia MTCRC, Dr. PARK Hansan explained information related to the success of the Cirebon Ocean ODA Project, including Self-Sustain Capacity Building Development, operation of equipment to support the Government projectIndonesia's involvement in collecting scientific data, assisting in the SAR of Sriwijaya Air SJ-182, Water Quality Survey, Seaweed Mapping, and measuring water parameters in the potential seaweed area in Teluk Awang.
On this occasion, Acting Deputy Firman officially declared the latest ODA project, namely Integrated Capacity Building Center (ICBC) "Establishing an Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Center and Enhancing Capacity Building in Indonesia". On the success of the Cirebon Ocean ODA Project, Acting Deputy Firman emphasized the importance of ensuring the sustainability and expansion of ODA from the results of previous ODA projects and the use of equipment.
"We also recognize the importance of ongoing efforts in improving and developing human capacity which is fundamental to Indonesia's maritime vision, namely, positioning Indonesia as a global maritime axis and achieving sustainable development goals," said Acting Deputy Firman.
With the official support of the Korean government and organized by the MTCRC, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves)collaboration with BPPSDMKP - KKP as the main partner, various universities in Indonesia such as Bandung Institute of Technology, IPB University, Hasanuddin University, Udayana University, Gadjah Mada University, Diponegoro University, Pattimura University, and Universities in Korea, as well as the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) will also provide full support for the ICBC project.
