    • [Survey Day 2] - Using Valeport Midas+ CTD to measure conductivity, temperature, salinity, turbidity, chlorophyll-a, pH, dissolved oxygen, PAR, fluorometer, and density in Cirebon waters. Sediment and seawater sampling using a grab sampler and Niskin bottle, current data collection using ADCP equipped with a VM (Vessel-Mounted) system that allows accurate measurements through real-time location revisions while the survey vessel is moving.

    • [Survey Day 3] - Marine survey (MBES Survey) and Drone Survey (in Bungko Lor).

  • Survey Objectives

    • Securing a foothold for cooperation in marine science and technology between Republic of Korea and Republic of Indonesia.

    • ODA (Official Development Assistant) Project Implementation. This project is mainly focused on survey and research in the Cirebon sea area, equipment provision, and training programs.

    • Promoting practical cooperation such as joint research projects, human resources exchanges, and capacity building.

    • Korea-Indonesia MTCRC support activities for Indonesia are carried out through routine survey collaborations in Cirebon Waters in the form of data collection.

MTCRC conducted a comprehensive survey to support this activity, mainly bathymetric and side-scan surveys utilizing multi-beam echosounder as part of Search and Rescue (SAR). The field survey aims to determine the bottom profile and detect a significant object in the seabed around Lajang and Laki island as Last Known Position (LKP) at Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta as the location of SJ182 informed by BASARNAS.

  • Preliminary survey

As a follow-up to the ICRG Program which was launched by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment on 7 October 2020, together with the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Governor of Bali, the Planning Team consisting of researchers from LIPI, Marine and Fisheries Research and Human Resources Agency (BRSDMKP) and academics from several universities in the Province Bali expose the preliminary results of the joint survey. The planning of the ICRG program is the first step taken from 7 October 2020 with a field survey. This survey activity also received full support from the Provincial / Regency / City governments in Bali. The purpose of this activity is to obtain potential habitat suitability locations and sea-scaping placement of coral transplantation models.

• Main survey

To understand in detail the conditions of the existing coastal ecosystem, topography and oceanography in the waters of the PEN coral reef restoration (ICRG) location, especially in Nusa Dua - Bali which is a priority location. There are 3 survey activities namely:

• Mapping of Coastal Ecosystems: Multi-spectral Drones, DGNSS satellite & Real Time Kinetic (RTK) imagery. The stakeholders involved in this activity are MTCRC, BPPT, and LAPAN. The purpose of this activity is to retrieve (1) water quality variables (chlorophyll concentrations, suspended sediments), (2) depth, and (3) substrate type.

• Seabed bathymetry using multi beam and single beam echo sounders and sub-bottom profile (SBP). The stakeholders involved in this activity are MTCRC, LAPAN, LIPI and PUSHIDROSAL. The purpose of this activity is to determine the shape of the seabed so that the determination of the placement of the transplant structure will be more efficient and to find out the sinking locations of unused Navy warships which in the future will be used as diving attractions.

• Mapping of Oceanographic Conditions using ADCP, CTD (with sensor: pH, Do, Turbidity, Redoxs, Chlorophyll and PAR) and Sediment Grab. The stakeholders involved in this activity are MTCRC, LAPAN, LIPI and PUSHIDROSAL. The purpose of this activity is to determine the characteristics of oceanographic parameters so that they can select coral species that are in accordance with oceanographic parameters in the area being surveyed.

  • • Bathymetry Survey using Single Beam Echo Sounder (SBES). Single beam echo sounder (SBES) EA 440 by Kongsberg was used to measure the water depth of each point of measurement through the several lines and be supported with GNSS position and heading by Hemisphere VS330 to cover the survey area. 

    • Sub Bottom Profiling Survey using SBP. The sub-bottom profiler survey was performed over the same area as that of the bathymetric survey without the correction lines. A set of sub-bottom profiler (SBP) equipment of Innomar SES 2000 Compact was used for the survey and supported by Hemisphere VS330 for the GNSS position and heading and also used SMC 107 as the motion reference unit. 

    • Tide Observation using Tide Gauge. The tidal observation was carried out during 5 days continuously using a tide gauge by Valeport Tidemaster and a tide staff. A computer was necessary to operate the tide gauge from calibration until the data recording started. Manual observation using the tide staff  is done every 15 minutes to verify the reading by the tide gauge whereas automatic recording took place every 15 minutes. 

    • Water Quality Survey using CTD. Water quality survey was conducted at 10 locations around the bathymetric survey. This survey was carried out using CTD Profiler & Water Quality by Valeport to measure conductivity, temperature and depth. 

    • Taking Sample of Sediment using Grab Sampler. The grab sampler survey took place at the same area as that bathymetric and same location as water quality survey particularly at 10 points of measurement. Sediment samples that have been collected will be delivered to Geology Laboratorium to give more information about the sediment characteristic in every point of measurement.

    • Equipment Training and Data Processing Training. Equipment and data processing training was held by PT. Geotindo technician. The training consists of  Kongsberg EA 440 operation and software training and Hypack software training for navigation and survey preparation.

    • ITB and MTCRC were also signed the "Korea-Indonesia Marine Expert Scholarship ''2020 Joint Supervision Masteral Expert Course.
